Updating Your iPhone

Yes, I realize I’m a bit late in this game since the iPhone 3.0 software came out awhile ago but if you haven’t updated yours yet, here is how I am doing mine. :)   Started this process at 2:26pm.

  • I wrote down a list of my iPhone apps.  Only a small list of 9 pages of apps. ;) This is probably not needed but I like to be better safe than sorry.  I also then blogged it because I was quite floored.
  • Plugged in my iPhone.
  • Downloaded all of my photos to iPhoto in case they disappear in the upgrade.
  • Switched to iTunes and agreed to the new 3.0 software upgrade that was available.
  • iTunes automatically backed up my iPhone and such (this took awhile).
  • Upgraded software on my iPhone.
  • Verified updated iPhone software.
  • Updated iPhone firmware.
  • Verified Erin Blaskie’s iPhone.
  • Updated phone and restarted the iPhone.
  • iTunes produced message, “We’re sorry. We are unable to read the SIM card.” –> Awesome.
  • Reconnected iPhone.
  • Saw new app — Voice Memos.  Yay! Upgraded.
  • Updated iPhone Carrier Settings.
  • Received message –> “Your iPhone carrier settings were updated successfully.”
  • Verified my iPhone… Again.  Freakin’ awesome.
  • Done.
  • Hmmm… Kind of anti-climatic.

Hopefully this is helpful if you haven’t upgraded your iPhone yet or have been nervous in doing so.  I’ll let you know shortly what I think of the new iPhone 3.0 software and upgrade stuff.  I don’t have the new iPhone and don’t plan on upgrading it anytime soon so I won’t be talking about the video aspects of it but I will share anything else of interest.
