Out With the Old, In With the New: The Process of Stepping Out of What's Comfy and Moving Into What's Authentic

Do you ever get that sinking feeling that you’re “stuck” doing what you’re doing for the rest of eternity? Or, do you find yourself doing something that used to sizzle and pop for you but now just falls flat like a week old bottle of soda?

At some point or another, we’ve all experienced this change from what has worked in our lives to what no longer feels good or right. Although the place we’re at might feel very comfortable and may allow us the opportunity to earn a great income, have the freedom and flexibility to do what we want and the ease of being able to do the work in our sleep, it doesn’t always mean we’re in the right place.

In fact, this is usually the wrong place. Why? Well, when we get comfortable in doing the “usual” we are often not striving for greatness any longer or pushing ourselves into new territory thus challenging us and forcing us to think outside of our normal box. When we stay in that “comfy” place, we don’t move forward… we just stay still.

Moving into something new allows us the opportunity to make good again on any processes we had before that may not have worked, allows us to only choose to do what we love instead of doing everything we can to earn a buck and most importantly, it allows us the freedom to recreate which brings about new and fresh energy.

In my own experience with this change, I have found that the most important things to assess and look at when moving into what feels authentic for yourself is (a) what has worked up until now that needs to stay somewhat the same and (b) what hasn’t worked and how can we improve upon that for the future.

In looking at these two things, you can begin to build out your new business in a way that you’ve only dreamed about before. Sometimes we get so stuck in doing what we’ve always done that we forget that we have the opportunity to fix it. To create systems and processes that work and that keep our lives and our businesses simple.

The best part about this sort of shift in your business is that you can do what you really, really love to do and the rest of the world understands what it is that you love to do to. There isn’t the confusion of your marketing message saying one thing but your heart screaming out something else. When your business meets your true authentic self, you are only going to be met with greatness and pure authentic passion.

So, in closing, take a look at your own business and your life in general. Are you living authentically in every area? If not, consider what a move might look like from something that is comfortable to something that is authentic. Then, write up a plan and lay it out so you can visibly see it. Put it up on a bulletin board in your office or make it your desktop background.

Change can be painful and you can go through it nice and easy or kicking and screaming but either way, change will come and really… change is the only thing that ever stays the same.
